Mention the name Schuster and everyone knows who you’re talking about.


“Leon Schuster is a national treasure and probably, after Madiba, the most well-known South African across generations,” says producer Rian van Heerden.

Now, for the very first time, the prankster’s remarkable life story will be told. The five-part documentary series will explore his childhood in Bloemfontein, his early years as a radio presenter, and his phenomenal success with films like You Must Be Joking and Mama Jack


But it’s not all laughs. In recent years, Leon has faced health challenges, particularly with his back, which has left him in near-constant pain. For the first time, he speaks candidly about these struggles, as well as the mistakes he has made in both his professional and personal life.

In August 2025, Leon received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Silwerskerm for his contribution to the entertainment industry in South Africa.

GREAT AFRICAN CRIMES WITH MANDY WIENER S2

Step into the shadowy corridors of history and uncover the stories of two local crimes that captivated their time.

In Season 2, Great African Crimes with Mandy Wiener revisits the case of the only Huguenot woman put to death for murder in the Cape Colony during the 18th Century, and looks at the notorious case of an “insurance killer” in the early 1900s who is considered the country’s first documented serial killer.

Executive produced by Oscar winner Kevin Costner and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, Kevin Costner’s The West is an eight-part series that provides a fresh look at the epic history of the American West by delving into the desperate struggle for the land itself – and how it still shapes the America we know today.

Decider says, “Kevin Costner’s The West isn’t the usual retelling of the United States’ western expansion, because it takes the viewpoint that the US settlers were treading on an already-occupied land… It definitely finds the nuance of both sides of the country’s push westward.”

THE WONDERFULLY WEIRD WORLD OF GUMBALL S1

From the creators of The Amazing World of Gumball comes a brand-new series that’s just a bit more weird and a little more wonderful. 


Follow the misadventures of 12-year-old Gumball and his family in their weird and wonderful town of Elmore. Dad’s a six-foot stay-at-home pink rabbit; Mom works hard in the rainbow factory; and Gumball’s school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut and a banana.

The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball has a 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.6/10 score on IMDbSlate hails the animated series as “one of the best shows on television… like Bluey’s naughty cousin… as antic and inventive as ever.”

PHINEAS AND FERB S5
Disney Channel SA (DStv Channel 303) | 4:30PM on weekdays 

Phineas and Ferb follows the inventive stepbrothers as they tackle another 104 days of summer. Candace is more determined than ever to finally bust her little brothers, while their pet platypus, Perry, continues to lead a double life as the suave Agent P, whose sole mission is to thwart Dr Doofenshmirtz from taking over the Tri-State Area.

After five seasons, Phineas and Ferb still has a 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.1/10 rating on IMDb. Previous seasons won three Primetime Emmys and been nominated at the Annies, BAFTAs and Kids Choice Awards, among others.  

WIZARDS BEYOND WAVERLY PLACE S2: PART 1

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place
 follows an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin realises he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities – and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.

In S2, Billie grapples with the fact that being part of the Russo family might be more complicated than she thought – especially now that she’s not the only wizard in the house. Thanks to Roman and Milo’s new magical powers, Justin is now tasked with training three young wizards for the Family Wizard Competition. As the stakes rise inside and outside the family, a mysterious new threat emerges – one that could unravel the Russos forever.

At the 2025 Kids Choice Awards, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place was up for Favorite Kids Show, Favorite Male TV Star: Kids (David Henrie as Justin) and Favorite Female TV Star: Kids (Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie).

This is a spinoff from Wizards of Waverly Place, which won Emmys, BAFTAs, Kids Choice and Teen Choice awards – and launched the career of Selena Gomez, who exec produces and guest stars here.

FATHERS AND SONS S1

Fathers and Sons follows three generations of Mphahlele men trying (and failing) to live in harmony under one roof.

Khutso, a control-freak single dad, is doing his best to raise his teenage son Gopolang with military precision – until his father Madimetja shows up with nothing but a suitcase full of regrets and wild schemes. He crashes into Khutso’s life like a kasi taxi with no brakes.

Makwela Lekalakala stars as Madimetja, with Paul Maila as Khutso and child star Omhle Tshabalala (Christmas ClothesUnseen) as Gopolang.

NGICEL’IVISA S1

Ngicel’iVisa is a reality show that creates a platform for open-minded couples in committed relationships to grant each other permission to put their relationship’s trust and loyalty to the ultimate test.

They want to make sure that they do not have feelings for their ex’s or crush before they make a big commitment to each other, like moving in together or getting engaged or married.

Both partners go away for one night with their crush or ex and, based on the outcomes, decide if they can continue with their relationship or end it.

DEXTER: RESURRECTION S1

He’s alive. And killing it. 

Currently at #5 among IMDb’s Most Popular TV Shows with a 9.2/10 score there, a 95% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a second season already in the pipeline, Dexter: Resurrection returns Michael C Hall to his multiple-Emmy-nominated role as everyone’s favourite serial killer.
 

Weeks after he took a bullet to the chest from his own son in Dexter: New Blood, Dexter awakens from a coma to find Harrison gone without a trace. He sets out to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy as Dexter realises his past is catching up to him fast.  

Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Oscar nominee Uma Thurman (Pulp FictionKill Bill), and Black Reel nominee Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (SmokeThe Chi) join the Dexter universe this time around. WAAR DAAR ‘N WIL IS S2

African Movie Academy Award nominee Lee-Ann van Rooi hosts honest, intimate and surprising conversations with diverse guests – people who have all worked through challenges, stuck with it and proven with their life stories: “Where there is a will, there is indeed a way.”

This season’s guests include John Steenhuisen, leader of the opposition and minister of agriculture; Rayno Nel, the strongest man in the world; AfriForum leader Kallie Kriel; Professor Debra Meyer, a respected biochemist and former weather presenter; Cedwyn Joel, a living theatre and TV legend; and beloved actress Susan Coetzer.

LOCKERBIE: A SEARCH FOR TRUTH

Based on real events, Lockerbie: A Search For Truth stars Oscar winner Colin Firth (The StaircaseThe King’s SpeechBridget Jones’s Diary) as a grieving father seeking justice in the aftermath of one of the worst airline disasters in history. 

On 21 December 1988, a terrorist plot killed 259 passengers and crew aboard Pan Am Flight 103 when the plane exploded 38 minutes after take-off, with a further 11 residents losing their lives as it came down over the quiet Scottish town of Lockerbie.  

Directed by BAFTA winner Otto Bathurst (HaloBilly the KidHis Dark Materials), Lockerbie: A Search For Truth provides an intimate account of a man risking everything in memory of his daughter and the unflinching pursuit of truth and justice.

Inside Melbourne Airport takes viewers behind the scenes of Australia’s busiest 24-hour airport.

With over 35 million passengers moving through its terminals each year, the team work around the clock to manage complex challenges, including flight delays, tight turnarounds, runway maintenance, baggage mishaps and flight emergencies. 

It’s up to the dedicated team to make split-second decisions that keep the airport running safely, smoothly and on time.

LAW & ORDER TORONTO: CRIMINAL INTENT S2
M-Net (DStv Channel 101) | 8PM on Thursdays 

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent follows an elite squad of detectives from the Specialised Criminal Investigations Unit of the Toronto Police Department as they investigate high-profile crime and corruption cases ripped from the headlines. 

The Canadian adaptation of Dick Wolf’s megahit Law & Order: Criminal Intent franchise became the #1 prime-time drama of the year in Canada at launch, and was nominated for no less than 20 Canadian Screen Awards this year, winning three, including Best Drama Series.

Kathleen Munroe (Patriot) and Critics Choice nominee Aden Young (Rectify) co-star as Detective Sergeants Frankie Bateman and Henry Graff.

Season 3 is already in production. 

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM
MM1 (DStv Channel 104) | 12:45PM, Saturday, 

Set 183 years before the events of the original films, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim follows the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and vengeful lord, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.  

Executive produced by Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus and the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series), the anime epic’s voice cast is led by Emmy winner Brian Cox (Succession) as Helm Hammerhand and Miranda Otto as the narrator, reprising her award-winning role from the original trilogy as Éowyn. 

Also listen out for Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan (aka Pippin and Merry in The Lord of the Rings films) voicing the orcs Shank and Wrot, as well as Nigerian actor Jude Akuwudike (The Little MermaidBeasts of No Nation) as Lord Thorne.

Dating #NoFilter: South Africa follows a group of singles on blind dates in Cape Town and Johannesburg, with hilarious, real-time commentary from local celebs and comedians.

THE ROOKIE S7
M-Net (DStv Channel 101) | 7PM on Tuesdays 

The Rookie stars multiple People’s Choice winner Nathan Fillion (CastleFirefly) as John Nolan. Once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, John is recovering from a gunshot wound and feeling the effects of his age this season. Meanwhile, the team welcomes two new rookies and continues the hunt for two escaped prisoners who have very personal vendettas. 

This season’s guest stars include four-time Emmy nominee Colton Dunn (Superstore’s Garrett), Oscar nominee Margaret Avery (The Color Purple) and Teen Choice nominee Noel Fisher (Mickey in Shameless).

Nominated for two 2025 Emmys for its stunts, The Rookie was JustWatch’s most viewed title in South Africa in 2024. After seven seasons, The Rookie still has an 8/10 score on IMDb and has already been renewed for Season 8.

DIKKER AS WATER S1

When Doğa and Fatih decide to marry, Kıvılcım must make peace with it – and the fact that her daughter’s new in-laws are devoutly religious and extremely conservative – everything she is not. 

The multi-award-winning Turkish telenovela, also called Kızılcık Şerbeti or Cranberry Sorbet in English, has been dubbed into Afrikaans, with a star-studded voice cast that includes Fleur du Cap nominee Sanli Jooste and SAFTA winners Roberto Kyle and Ilse Klink.

JAGRITI EMPOWERED
Zee World (DStv Channel 166) | 5:30PM on weekdays from Thursday, 16 October

To empower her marginalised Chitta community, Jagriti challenges age-old traditions and locks horns with its leader, who works for the mafia.

Dubbed in Sesotho, the Indian soapie won 2025 Zee Rishtey Awards for Favourite Daughter (Rachana Mistry) and Favourite Villain (Arya Babbar, who was also nominated as the Fan Favourite Star at the 2025 Indian Telly Awards).

FIRE COUNTRY S3
M-Net (DStv Channel 101) | 7PM double-bill on Fridays from 17 October

Nominated for Best Action Series at the 2024 Critics Choice Super Awards, Fire Country stars Max Thieriot as Bode Donovan, a young convict in an unconventional prison release programme in California, working with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires. 


New cast members this season include People’s Choice winner Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) as a firefighter and Emmy nominee Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) as a sheriff, with both linked to potential spinoffs. 

Co-created by Thieriot and Emmy-nominated Grey’s Anatomy producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, Fire Country is exec-produced by Oscar nominee and multiple-Emmy winnerJerry Bruckheimer (CSITop GunBad BoysPirates of the Caribbean).

Fire Country was CBS’ most watched new show of the year in its first season and has already been renewed for a fourth season.

Also look out for the likes of Rika Sennett (Binnelanders) and screen legend Ian Roberts.  

Silwerskerm programme manager Tina Kruger is the head writer and executive producer, with Berdene Burger (Die Byl) co-writing, directing and producing.

POPPA’S HOUSE S1
M-Net (DStv Channel 101) | 10PM on Wednesdays from 22 October

Four-time Emmy nominee Damon Wayans stars as happily divorced Poppa, a legendary talk radio host who has his point of view challenged: at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.

At the 2025 Image Awards, Poppa’s House was up for Outstanding Comedy Series, with Wayans winning Outstanding Actor and Damon Wayans Jr taking home Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Wayans Jr was also up for a Kids Choice Award for Favourite Male TV Star (Family), while the show has also been nominated at the NAMIC Vision, Art Directors Guild and American Cinema Editors awards. 

Poppa’s House has an 88% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Common Sense Media saying, “Immensely watchable, this delightful sitcom harnesses the physical comedy and smarts of two members of a beloved comic family.”

TYLER PERRY’S THE OVAL S6
BET (DStv Channel 129) | 10PM on Wednesdays from 22 October

Tyler Perry’s The Oval tells the story of US President Hunter Franklin and first lady Victoria Franklin, a power-hungry interracial couple, who present a perfect facade to the world while indulging in wildly scandalous behavior.

In Season 6, the gloves are off and the battle for the White House hits a whole new level as Hunter will stop at nothing to reclaim his role as Commander in Chief.

BET has already ordered S7.

ALONE: SOUTH AFRICA
HISTORY (DStv Channel 186) | 7:25PM on Thursdays from 30 October

Season 12 marks one of the most visually stunning and intense seasons of Alone yet, in one of the most dangerous locations in the series’ history.

For the first time on Alone, 10 new survivalists navigate the rugged and unforgiving Great Karoo Desert and face off against searing heat, foul water, unpredictable storms and dangerous animals. 

From frequent animal encounters and significant game harvests to unexpected medical extractions, impressive shelter builds, and creative foraging techniques, the survivalists’ mental willpower and wilderness skills are put to the test as they attempt to master new territory in hopes of being the last person standing.

A previous season of Alone was nominated for Best Travel/Adventure Show at the Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards.

THE MARLOW MURDER CLUB S2
BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 174) | 8PM on Thursdays from 30 October

Life in the idyllic town of Marlow has just about returned to normal after the triple murder that rocked the community. But it’s not long before retired archaeologist Judith Potts, vicar’s wife Becks Starling and dog-walker Suzie Harris are called back into action, when a series of new unsettling crimes befall the local residents.

Created by Robert Thorogood (Death in Paradise), The Marlow Murder Club stars Samantha Bond (Pierce Brosnan’s Moneypenny and Lady Rosamund in Downton Abbey) as Judith.

Season 1 was nominated for Favourite New Drama at the 2024 TV Times Awards, while Season 2 has an 80% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In their five star review, Daily Mail hails the show as “clever, funny, unashamedly English… a murder mystery masterclass.”

THE MONKEY
MM1 (DStv Channel 104) | 8PM on Friday, 31 October

Arriving just in time for Halloween, The Monkey is a new horror movie from Longlegs writer-director Osgood Perkins, which Bloody Disgusting says is ”a Stephen King adaptation like no other… death has never been funnier or gorier.” 

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree, forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

Produced by multi-award-winning horror legend James Wan (The ConjuringSaw), The Monkey stars Emmy nominee Theo James (The White LotusThe Gentlemen, Tobias Eaton in Divergent) and Emmy-winning Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany.

Also look out for multi-award-winning child star Christian Convery (Gus in Sweet Tooth), Critics Choice winner Elijah Wood (Frodo in The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Emmy nominee Adam Scott (Mark Scout in Severance).
