Get ready to sweeten up your Heritage and Braai Day celebrations with three tasty desserts! These recipes are so delicious, they’ll have you saying “Mzansi fo sho!” faster than you can flip boerewors on the braai.
Keegan Eichstadt, FUTURELIFE marketing manager believes that a braai without dessert is like a soccer game with no vuvuzela. And whilst FUTURELIFE, is a name that is as synonymous with South African breakfasts as braais are with rugby, it is not only the maestro of smart, nutritional breakfasts.
“Our Smart nutritional products are also the secret ingredients for whipping up incredible desserts too!” says Eichstadt. “From sunrise energy boosters to sunset treats, we want to change the way people think about nutrition and its role in their lives and in doing so, inspire and help people to make smart choices.” He added.
So, for the sweet finale to your Heritage Day feast, satisfy your cravings by cooking up one of these three recipes, courtesy of FUTURELIFE and two Foodie Bloggers.

- ¾ cup Milk
- 1 tsp Raspberry Essence
- ½ cup Raspberry Pureé (strained) plus a little more for drizzling/swirls
- ½ cup Honey
- 1 cup Cream whipped to medium peaks
Method:
1. Mix yoghurt, FUTURELIFE Smart food™ Wheat, milk powder, milk, raspberry pureé (raspberries blended to a pureé and strained), and honey in a bowl. Whisk until well incorporated and set aside.
2. In a bigger bowl, whip the cream to medium peaks, adding a touch of pink food colouring.
3. Add the yoghurt protein mixture to the whipped cream and fold gently till well combined.
4. Transfer to a loaf tin.
5. Drizzle some more raspberry pureé on the top and swirl around with a skewer. You can add some whole raspberries as well.
6. Cover with cling wrap and freeze overnight.
7. Allow to sit for 10 minutes at room temperature before scooping – enjoy!
Note: For a creamier texture, use an ice cream machine to churn the mixture for the best results. Alternatively, you can freeze the ice cream in a bowl or a bigger tub. Then, whisk the mixture every 30 minutes for the first 3 to 4 hours. After 4 hours, add the toppings (raspberry swirls and raspberries), then freeze overnight. Substitute the raspberries for any fruit pureé to make different flavours.
