Kenyan producer and songwriter DTX has dropped his latest record ‘Swag So Fresh’ (stylised as ‘SSF’), featuring Kenyan rappers Buruklyn Boyz and Big Yasa – a powerful collaboration that fuses high-energy drill with a feel-good, mainstream appeal.
Combining his expertise with Buruklyn Boyz and Big Yasa’s culture-shaping skills, DTX has created music that not only represents Nairobi’s two neighbourhoods, Kibera (Number Nane) and Buru Buru (route 58/Tano Nane) but also the Kenyan urban culture, speaking to the urban youth conscious and their unique fashion sense.
“I’ve been a fan of Buruklyn Boyz since day one,” DTX said. “They’re the OG drillers, pioneers of the sound in Kenya, so it only made sense to experiment with them on a fresh hip hop wave. And Big Yasa? That’s the voice of the streets, the King of No. 8. Together, we made a feel-good song that anyone can jam to.”
‘SSF’ is a celebration of Kenyan street culture and vibe that embraces the global drill movement – it gives music lovers a fresh hip hop anthem that appeals to diverse audiences.

“Rap and drill can be pop too – it’s all about the emotions that you feed your listeners. For this project, Big Yasa and Buruklyn Boyz represent a mix of hard bars and mainstream appeal. They are a perfect fit for ‘Swag so fresh.’”
The song has been generating admirable attention through a tease campaign that the featured artists conducted on social media.
DTX continues to create timeless music with top-charting Kenyan acts, further exploring his production and songwriting talents.
‘SSF’ is his first project in 2025, coming on the heels of his Sauti Sol-featured ‘HIGH’ that caught the attention of many music lovers. He promises to share more music with other talented artists throughout the rest of the year.
Born Derrick Gaitara, DTX has been active in the music industry for over 10 years. He has become known for his versatile production style, encompassing various genres, including pop, electro, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, Afrobeats, trap, drill, dubstep, and EDM.

This genre-fluidity has seen him work with Kenya’s finest acts like Bien, Chimano, Fancy Fingers, King Kaka, Savara, and Boutross.
He has produced a number of Kenyan hit songs such as ‘Rhumba Japani’ by Sauti Sol, ‘Simple Lover’ and ‘Mastory’ by P-Unit member Gabu, ‘Bash Bash’ by Kristoff, ‘Bablas’ and ‘DaboTap (Remix)’ by the Kansoul, ‘Ride’ and ‘Show Off’ by Rosa, ‘Take it Down’ by Steff Kapela, ‘100 Bars’ by Noti Flo, ‘Us’ by Boutross, ‘Some Some’ by Yviona and King Kaka, and ‘Peng Ting’ by Kagwe Mungai.
One of his most significant achievements was producing the solo debut albums of Sauti Sol members Chimano and Savara, Heavy is the Crown and Savage Level, respectively. The albums departed from Sauti Sol’s usual sound, and DTX was praised for his ability to bring a fresh perspective to the group’s music. The success of these albums helped establish DTX as a go-to producer.
