Learners at Oboch Primary School in Siaya County are set to benefit from new and improved learning infrastructure funded by M-Pesa Foundation.

The KES 35 million project featured the construction and equipping of nine new grade school classrooms and three new classrooms for ECDE learners, which will reduce congestion and provide the learners with a comfortable learning environment.

The school has also received a new and fully equipped 40-seater ICT laboratory to enhance digital learning opportunities for the students and the surrounding community.

“At M-Pesa Foundation, we believe that each student has the right to learn in a safe, conducive environment, and that is why we continuously invest in creating learning environments that will encourage students to reach their full academic potential. Education, after all, has the power to unlock the potential of our communities and enhance the livelihoods of our people, regardless of their background,” said M Pesa Foundation trustee Mr. John Ohaga.

To improve WASH outcomes in the school, the Foundation also constructed ablution blocks for the boys, girls, and staff respectively and set up a new kitchen equipped with 2 modern energy-saving jikos that will cater for the learners’ nutritional needs.

For Mrs. Perez Molo, Oboch Primary Head of Institution, the renovated school represents a new chapter of opportunity for the learners, teachers, and community at large.

“We are honoured to have been selected by M-Pesa Foundation for this renovation. I believe that the new classrooms and improved facilities have transformed our school,  and they will allow our students to focus, dream big, and thrive academically,” she said.

In November 2024, M-Pesa Foundation also handed over a similar school renovation project at Kametho Primary School in Siaya County, where it invested KES 35 million in the construction and upgrading of infrastructure. Other counties that have benefited from similar initiatives include Migori, Homa Bay, Meru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Muranga, Kisii, Bungoma, and Vihiga.
