Tanzanian music icon Lady JayDee is set to release her new single titled ‘Po Po’, which will be available for streaming here soon.
This release is particularly significant as it marks her first musical offering of the year and coincides with her prodigious 25th anniversary in the music industry.
Adding to the excitement, ‘Po Po’ is also the first single to be released under her newly established distribution partnership with Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA). ‘Po Po’ sees Lady JayDee giving gratitude after making music for two and a half decades. Throughout her career, she has worked tirelessly to redefine the bongo flava genre in a world dominated by male musicians, creating a career that has been both challenging and fulfilling.
“This song is to thank God for everything He has done for me,” she said. “I have been through so much during my 25-year career: the battles, the wins, the ups and downs, the tears, and the victories. Many people I started with are no longer in the picture, but He gave me the courage to overcome whatever came my way. And here I am today, celebrating my 25th anniversary in music. He truly made me brave.”
Reflecting on her career, the artist, widely known as the ‘Queen of Bongo Flava,’ said that many colleagues who started alongside her are no longer present, sharing her gratitude for overcoming challenges that came her way. These experiences have shaped her career, and ‘Po Po’ is her way of thanking God for a fulfilling 25 years of creating incredible music enjoyed in Tanzania and beyond.
