Nigerian singer Winny has launched her new EP titled Commercial Break, now available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The collection was heralded by the single ‘Suh Good,’ released on 4 December, and features a vibrant mix of Afro-R&B, Afropop, and reggae.
These songs, described as “beautiful distractions,” provide solace, joy, and an escape from life’s chaos, showcasing Winny’s signature Afro-fusion style infused with raw emotion and vivid storytelling.
A statement describes Commercial Break as a “poetic metaphor that redefines how we perceive both her artistry and love itself.”
Thematically, the project captures love’s unpredictability, ranging from passion to distance, excitement to calmness. It also represents fleeting yet profound moments of affection, much like a commercial interrupting life’s regular programming.
“While she claims to offer a break from the mainstream Afrobeats sound, she simultaneously proves that her music is, in fact, a commercial masterpiece in its own right.”
An Apple Music Up Next alumna, Winny, born Winifred Ohili Adanu and raised in Benue State, cites Jamaican artists Chronixx and Kranium, and Afrobeats icon Wizkid as her influences.
Winny is behind 2023’s eponymous debut album and recent singles ‘Lego’, ‘Take Me’, and ‘Ghetto Feels’.
