Kenyan gospel artist Pitson has signed a licensing deal with Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA).

The partnership will see UMG EA oversee the distribution and promotion of Pitson’s extensive music catalogue, reaching wider audiences both locally and internationally.

Known for hits like ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’ and ‘Uvumilivu’, he said he is happy and blessed to be part of the UMG family.

“God has seen me through the music industry thus far, and this is another sign of His grace and love that I will choose to walk with Him,” he said.

Commenting on the signing, UMG EA general manager Chinasa Udeala expressed his excitement at working with one of Kenya’s revered gospel acts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Pitson, one of Kenya’s most talented and inspiring gospel artists, to the Universal Music East Africa family,” Udeala said.

“Pitson’s music has touched countless lives with its powerful messages of faith, hope, and love, and we are excited to partner with him as he takes his artistry to new heights. Together, we look forward to sharing his incredible gift with the world and continuing to uplift audiences through the power of gospel music.”

At the same time, the award-winning singer has announced a new album titled Brand New Me set forrelease on March 7, marking a return to the music fray following a stint off the grid.

“I decided to take a break from music and take time for personal growth. I’m excited to embark on this journey and share some songs I have written over the years that will restore faith and hope to my fans and believers,” Pitson said about the new album.

Pitson was first introduced to music at an early age by his father, who mentored and tutored him to play the guitar. He picked up the skill and sang in high school, forming his first band then.

While at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT), where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in commerce, he sang at the Christian Union events.

At JKUAT, he worked on his craft, singing alongside his friend, who became his band member after forming the Brothers Under God’s Grace group.

The band shaped his music career and slowly announced him as a contemporary gospel musician. After working with the band between 2004 and 2011, he went solo, writing music for other artists and working as a background vocalist.

During that stint, he worked with veteran gospel artists such as Esther Wahome and Emmy Koskei.

After his higher education, he pursued a career as a banker but later quit to focus on music. He shot to fame with his hit song ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’ that solidified him as a unique urban gospel artist.Other songs that spearheaded his fame were ‘Niache Niimbe’ and ‘Kilele.’

Now a reverend, Pitson ministers through music; his latest project ‘Pale Ulipo,’featuring Karura Voices, is gaining traction.

Pitson has garnered over eight million views on YouTube throughout his solo career, which began officially in 2013.
