The winners of the sixth edition of the Women in Film Awards were announced at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi on March 8, 2025.

The awards honour the contributions of women working in Kenya’s flm and television industry.

WIFA has grown tremendously over the years, increasing its award categories from 14 in 2020 to 27 this year — a testament to the industry’s expanding female representation and impact.

The awards are aimed at bringing women filmmakers in Kenya together to provide a space where the diversity of women’s voices, stories and creativity is equally recognised and celebrated.

This event recognised and celebrated the exceptional talent, resilience, and achievements of women in Kenya’s film industry during an award ceremony full of glitz and glamour.

Held under the theme Inspire Inclusion: Amplifying Voices of Marginalised Women Filmmakers, the 2025 edition honoured some of Kenya’s most outstanding female filmmakers, content creators, and actresses.

Among this year’s award recipients are: Jane Munene – Most Influential Woman Filmmaker, Celestine Ndinda – Best Digital Content Creator, Sanaipei Tande – Best Actress (Film), Susan Njoki – Best Actress (Drama), Audrey Egesa – Best Newcomer Producer, Abigail Arunga – Best Scriptwriter (TV Drama), Ella Imani – Best Child Actress, Mwende Renata – Best Cinematographer – among many other exceptional women.

Ella Imani won the Best Child Actress Award.

WIFA was founded by Dr Susan Gitimu, a passionate advocate for women in film, to provide a platform that celebrates and elevates the contributions of female filmmakers. The event has steadily gained traction, attracting significant partnerships from key industry players.

“As the awards continue to grow, WIFA aims to gain even greater recognition and support to ensure sustained empowerment for women in Kenya’s film industry,” the organisers said.
