Graceful, bold and effortlessly commanding, Dr Catherine Masitsa has always embraced the spotlight with confidence. Celebrated for her powerful presence on The Real Housewives of Nairobi, the Queen Mother is now taking her influence to a continental stage as she proudly represents Kenya in the upcoming Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa.
This highly anticipated Showmax crossover unites some of Africa’s most vibrant housewives for an unforgettable luxury escape in Brazil — and Dr C is poised to shine every step of the way.
In an exclusive, Dr C spills on her RHUGT-Africa experience:
What were your initial reactions when you got the call for Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa?
Stepping out of Nairobi for the Ultimate Girls Trip was truly an electrifying feeling.
A luxurious, all-expenses-paid trip to such a vibrant, beautiful destination is a dream come true.
The opportunity to fly the Kenyan flag alongside other formidable African women felt monumental. Who wouldn’t be thrilled about that?
I was initially worried about the potential for drama, especially not knowing any of the ladies personally. My mantra became: Stay true to myself, be polite but firm, and try to find the genuine connections amongst all the chaos.
I knew if I focused on enjoying the unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience in Brazil, it would help anchor me through whatever drama was on the table.
RHUGT-Africa marks the first time you are meeting with Zena since the explosive altercation in The Real Housewives of Nairobi Season 2. What was it like seeing her again?
I was completely unprepared, and I can tell you truthfully, I nearly passed out literally. I had genuinely no idea she was going to be there, and the sight of her immediately triggered a rush of intense emotions. I chose peace.
I distinctly whispered to her, straight into her ear: ‘Tutaenda nyumbani Kenya tukapigane huko tafadhali, sio hapa.’
Did you finally get to resolve your issues, or are things still frosty between the two of you?
We have reached a point where we can have a sensible conversation; we are finally able to truly listen to one another without shouting over each other.
She understands that the issues were never about her as a person, but about the critical need to stop glamorizing issues that actively harm and diminish women.
This includes unacceptable behavior like body-shaming and the archaic, dangerous practice of calling women witches.
While I respect Zena’s ability to engage calmly, my fight against the normalization of such harmful behavior continues, fiercely and unapologetically.
In the show, you talk about going for therapy after RHON Season 2. Can you tell us more about this?
The constant barrage of negativity, emotional volatility, and the relentless personal attacks took a genuine toll.
I needed to step away and simply be by myself to acknowledge the emotional and spiritual experience I had been through, and crucially, to process it.
The energy was overwhelmingly negative, and I knew I could not carry that into my everyday life.
For me, therapy was all about introspection.
It focused on self-awareness and emotional growth; identifying personal triggers, learning to manage reactions with calm, and developing ways to protect one’s energy and maintain inner peace.
This really helped me prepare for the Ultimate Girls Trip as well.
Which housewives did you bond with in Rio? Are you still in touch, and did those friendships
survive the heat of Brazil?
My relationship with Madam Evoria from The Real Housewives of Johannesburg is truly special.
We are very much in touch, speaking often about our children, our businesses, family life, and everything in between.
What I value most, and what I believe defines our bond, is the maturity we bring to conflict.
I loved our conflicts with Madam Evoria. She is principled, and I am formidable, but we operate from a place of fundamental respect. We are planning to visit each other soon.
I also bonded with Mariam from The Real Housewives of Lagos. She is incredibly balanced and possesses a wonderful sense of calm. While we haven’t spoken frequently, we follow each other closely on social media and our mutual support is clear.
If you had to describe this season using an emoji, what would it be? The Explosion Emoji💥
Would you do it all again if given the chance?
Absolutely! My bags are packed already. The show’s producers know talent, energy, and good television.
They know that when you bring together this blend of African powerhouse women, you get fire.
They will need me back, and I am ready to deliver.
What can Kenyans expect from the show?
I would describe the experience as Malindi on Steroids. I promise that neither I nor the other phenomenal ladies from South Africa and Nigeria will disappoint.
On RHON, viewers mostly saw the business mogul side of me. The formidable force who commands the table, often focusing on family values, business strategy, and high society.
In this edition, you will get to meet the ratchet, unadulterated Dr. C. This trip brought out a spontaneous, carefree, and intensely fun-loving side of me that the cameras in Nairobi rarely captured.
You will see the kind of energy that comes with true freedom; dancing on tables and fully embracing the celebratory, carnival spirit of Brazil.
Forget the prim and proper wine tastings. We were on a whole different level of fun.
That moment of pole dancing in a party bus is a testament to dropping all inhibitions and living in the moment, surrounded by African sisterhood.
Catch Dr. C on The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa, premiering this Friday exclusively on Showmax.
